“Zwette Jean”A railway line connecting the past, present, and future

The “Zwette Jean” project is based on the reinterpretation of a tram line that ran between the villages of Vossem and Sint-Joris-Weert from 1905 to 1957. Today, the route is still visible in many places as a silent line through the landscape – a unique piece of heritage that invites a new future.

Within this project, the former tram line is being redeveloped into a slow, scenic connection for cyclists and walkers. Themes such as water, ecology, heritage, and experience are central. Sources are being made visible again, biodiversity is being enhanced, and rest areas with views of the landscape are being created at strategic locations.

With minimal intervention and maximum spatial quality, the railway will once again become a meaningful structure: one that connects the past and the future and creates space for reflection, recreation, and climate adaptation.

This project is part of the Walden Strategic Project and is in line with the broader ambitions of the Brabantse Wouden, where nature, people, and history are being brought back into balance.
