For my graduation project, I am setting up the chapel in Sleidinge as a meeting place for Onderlinge Hulp, a voluntary organisation that supports people in vulnerable situations. The chapel is given a social and cultural purpose, with space for food distribution, day trips and festive gatherings. A central role is played by the flexible space that serves as both kitchen and auditorium. Here, participants learn how to creatively transform leftovers into fully-fledged meals. Thanks to multifunctional design solutions, the chapel can constantly adapt to the needs of the organisation and its visitors. This creates a dynamic place where care, meeting and education come together.
A building breathes. Not with lungs, but with stories, time, and the way people move in it. Some places linger in their history. Others get a second life. That layering between old and new, stillness and activity, is where my fascination begins.
And just as a space needs time to transform, so too do dreams. It is important to believe in what you feel, trust what you desire, and persevere — even when it is difficult. Only then will an idea take shape, and a wish become a reality.
