For the repurposing of this former municipal school in De Pinte, we were given the task of creating a socially engaged concept.

Inspired by the ‘Restaurant Misverstand’ project, I designed a coffee bar where people with young-dementia can work in an environment that both supports and challenges them.

Next to the bar, I added a shop featuring local products — a small-scale market focused on sustainability and connection with the neighbourhood.

The layout is designed to spark curiosity. Two staggered walls subtly separate the coffee bar and the shop — just enough is visible to keep you intrigued.

A long central axis runs through the space, connecting both areas.

Downstairs, dark wood, sage green, and off-white create a warm, slightly nostalgic atmosphere.

Upstairs, I opted for simplicity: a multifunctional space in ivory, designed to be flexible and suitable for a variety of activities.
