For my graduation project, I was commissioned to transform a 1939 school building into a socially relevant, multifunctional space. The current Oxfam shop and youth centre on the ground floor will make way for a coworking space with coffee bar, focused on social interaction. The upper floor will be converted into a multipurpose hall, complemented by a green outdoor area and limited parking for better accessibility.

The design is inspired by the vision of Meuleman, the original architect. His style – influenced by New Objectivity, Cubism, Art Deco and Art Nouveau – is reflected in clear structures and tight volumes. I therefore chose a single central volume at the heart of the building, integrating functions such as sanitary facilities and storage. This immediately forms the conceptual and physical centre of the design: The Block.
