For my graduation project, I designed a coffee bar and bookstore in an old municipal school in De Pinte. In this way, I create a place where students, authors and other literature lovers can come together, and give the building a new cultural and intellectual character.

The design is supported by two contrasting movements that glide through the space: one warm, dark and wooden; the other light, cool and in stainless steel. Downstairs, the bookstore and coffee bar flow seamlessly into each other. Upstairs is a multi-purpose room for lectures, exhibitions and workshops, flexibly partitioned with curtains.

With this project, I wanted to create a place where meeting, culture and peace come together. By consciously using contrasts in material, form and function, a harmonious and layered interior was created. I sought, and found, the balance between rest and movement, between contrast and connection.
