The Tussenhuis is a temporary accommodation centre for refugees from war-torn regions. The centre is located in the former fire station on the Academiestraat in Ghent. The inspiration for this centre stems, in part, from the painting Inflammable by Antoine Vander Auwera: a poignant image of a city shrouded in fire and darkness. The dark tones evoke pain, loss and chaos, whilst the blue, present in the work in a subtle yet powerful way, symbolises recovery, trust and the path to a new beginning.

The centre offers a warm and safe place to people who have had to leave their homes due to war or conflict. We welcome individuals and families from different countries and backgrounds, respecting everyone’s story and needs.
