Time Machine is a redesign project for the existing Bib Zottegem building, in which time takes centre stage as a spatial experience. The project divides the library into different zones, each linked to a generation and a particular sense of time.

The future focuses on children and features a playful, organic and curved design language. These forms symbolise a future that is still very much in the making. Sustainable materials and innovative elements reinforce this vision. The present focuses on students and adults and is expressed through a modular design that symbolises growth, change and flexibility. Contemporary materials and functions are employed here that align with the library’s current use. The past focuses on older people and employs a more classical, linear and symmetrical design language. These fixed forms symbolise a life that has already taken shape and evoke stability, memory and familiarity. Modern interventions are combined with materials and elements that evoke nostalgia.

Through the use of materials, form and atmosphere, Time Machine creates an interior in which different generations can identify with and connect with one another within a single shared space.
