With my project Ateljee, I reimagine the library in Zottegem as a contemporary public space where meeting, discovering and collaborating take centre stage. After all, today’s library is much more than a place for books and quiet. It is evolving from a collection-focused environment into a user-focused space that responds to the needs of its visitors.

Based on this vision, I designed four different studios, each tailored to a specific form of use and experience. In the Exploratie ateljee, play, discovery and creativity take centre stage. The Pauze ateljee creates space for rest, a newspaper or a coffee in an informal atmosphere. The Verhaal ateljee focuses on reading, research and in-depth exploration, whilst the Focus ateljee offers an environment for studying, concentration and collaboration.

By bringing these different atmospheres together, a dynamic library is created that not only offers knowledge but also encourages connection and interaction. Ateljee aims to demonstrate how architecture can contribute to an inclusive and versatile meeting place for everyone.
