The redevelopment of Lange Steenstraat 8 in Ghent is based on respect for the building’s historical identity, combined with a contemporary interpretation as a high-end bed and breakfast. The design seeks to strike a balance between authenticity, tranquillity and luxury, whilst preserving and enhancing the existing architectural qualities as much as possible.

The original spaces form the starting point for the project. Ornaments, high ceilings and authentic circulation structures are integrated into a new concept that exudes intimacy and refinement. The use of warm materials, natural textures and soft lighting creates a serene atmosphere that complements the exclusive experience of the guests.

The communal areas, such as the lounge and breakfast room, serve as tranquil meeting places where heritage and contemporary comfort converge. In the rooms, homely luxury takes centre stage, with carefully designed bespoke features and a subtle materiality that creates a sense of calm and security.

The project approaches the repurposing not as a contrast between old and new, but as a dialogue in which history and contemporary architecture reinforce one another. In this way, the building takes on a new significance within the urban fabric of Ghent, with a focus on atmosphere, experience and timeless elegance.
