The area around the Academiestraat is characterised by a vibrant mix of culture, creativity and education, creating a dynamic atmosphere.

The project capitalises on this by designing the building as an artist-in-residence space, where artists live, work and exhibit their work to visitors on their own initiative.

This creates a flexible meeting place that brings art and the neighbourhood together and strengthens the social and cultural dynamics of the area.

The result is not a closed volume, but an open steel framework that stands independently within the existing context and embraces the past.

Old and new come together in a whole where light, sightlines and circulation define the experience.
