In my work, I enjoy experimenting with materials and new ways of manipulating them. This year, I undertook a study of concrete and the ways in which it behaves. I ended up using moulds made from fabric. I noticed that, in this type of mould, the concrete is given a boundary, yet still retains a certain degree of freedom. For the final design, I opted for highly textured fabric that forms vertical grooves which flow with the shape of the furniture. Design-wise, this creates a smooth, flowing movement that consistently ends in an almost organic leg. The top is very smooth to contrast with the roughness of the rest and thus create balance. If you look closely, you can also see what look like scars here and there on the piece. These were created to reinforce the concrete. This, in turn, refers back to myself. To how, for me, those scars were linked to a certain difficulty, and how I always wanted to hide them. In my piece, I have deliberately left them there; they now possess a beauty that I want to reveal.

Ik ben zeer vereerd dat ik mijn passie voor dit werk hier met jullie kan delen.
