As a Dutch woman married to an Ecuadorian, Gaia lives in a constant negotiation with boundaries. In Tussen ons het koord, she explores how political, bureaucratic and cultural systems permeate the intimate sphere: love, family and the body. Through her international and multicultural relationship, she takes a fresh look at her own heritage, privileges and assumptions.

BIOGRAFIE:

Gaia op de Weegh (1998) is een multidisciplinaire performancekunstenaar uit Nederland. Ze behaalde haar bachelor Performance aan KASK Gent en rondt daar momenteel haar master Vrije Kunsten af. Ze werkt met een hybride mix van disciplines(circus/dans/tekst) en materialen, en zoekt steeds de ontmoeting op tussen fysieke aanwezigheid, poëtische (beeld)taal en thematische diepgang.

De thema’s die in Gaia’s werk terugkeren zijn divers, maar steeds verbonden met het persoonlijke. In haar praktijk onderzoekt ze maatschappelijke en sociale vraagstukken met emotionele en intieme lagen.  Soms ontstaat het werk vanuit inhoud, andere keren vertrekt ze vanuit materiaal/discipline en laat ze de betekenis open voor interpretatie door het publiek. Gaia werkt performatief en maakt vooral voorstellingen, met af en toe uitstappen naar film, installatie of tekstuele voordracht.
