Curatorial Studies: Bodies of Work

De tijdelijke organisatie Bodies of Work komt tot leven in de kapel van Kunsthal Extra City. Tijdens de zomer van 2022 vult zij de ruimte met zes verschillende tentoonstellingen en evenementen, samengesteld door de studenten van Curatorial Studies 2022. De organisatie en het vloeiende programma komen voort uit de historische functie van kapellen als plekken van contemplatie en als intieme ontmoetingsplaatsen.

Bodies of Work toont een opeenvolging van verschillende presentaties, als verschillende orgaansystemen die binnen één lichaam bestaan. Naarmate het programma zich ontvouwt, wordt een breed scala aan artistieke praktijken geïntroduceerd. De rol van de organisatie ligt in het programmeren van deze verschillende praktijken in één ruimte, terwijl tegelijkertijd de anatomie en de werkwijzen van artistieke en curatoriële organisaties worden onderzocht. Door als een lichaam te bewegen, is een programma ontwikkeld dat zich voortdurend aanpast aan de behoeften en verlangens van het collectief, de individuele praktijken en hun publiek.

The temporary organisation Bodies of Work comes to life in Kunsthal Extra City’s chapel. During the summer of 2022, it fills the space with six different exhibitions and events curated by the students of Curatorial Studies 2022. The organisation and its fluid programme emerge out of the historic function of chapels as places of contemplation and as intimate gathering spaces.

Bodies of Work shows a sequence of various presentations, as distinct organ systems that exist within one body. As the programme unfolds, it introduces a wide range of artistic practices. The organisation’s role lies in the programming of these diverse practices in a single space, while simultaneously investigating the anatomy and modes of operation of artistic and curatorial organisations. By moving as a body, a programme has been developed that constantly adapts to the needs and desires of the collective, the individual practices and their audience.
