In this master’s research project, I am exploring how digital technology can contribute to more inclusive art education, taking the sensory experience as my starting point. In special needs education and the care sector, art is not only therapeutic but also a valuable form of expression, a means of communication and a way of facilitating sensory experiences.

This project investigates how digital and interactive resources, such as audiovisual tools or touchscreens, can be used to make art more accessible to children, young people and adults with diverse support needs. I focused on pupils with motor impairments, for whom fine motor skills were challenging.

Central to this is the question of how art experiences can be designed to engage multiple senses and actively involve participants, regardless of their cognitive, physical or communicative abilities. In doing so, I explored the possibilities of the technology, but above all I wanted to inspire carers, teachers and healthcare professionals to get creative with these methods themselves.

The research is situated at the intersection of art education, inclusion in care and digital media. I start from the conviction that digital tools can not only be supportive, but also enable new forms of artistic experience and participation.

Through practice-oriented research and experimentation, I investigated how a ‘digital leap’ in the creative Studio within a care setting can contribute to more accessible, sensory and meaningful art experiences in an inclusive context.
