Animatie, Heksen en Historisch Bewustzijn. Hoe Populaire Cultuur het Beeld van Jeanne Panne Kleurt

My research focuses on the influence of animation aesthetics on historical consciousness, with a particular focus on the portrayal of witchcraft and the case of Jeanne Panne. I am studying how popular animation produces stereotypes and how this visual legacy distorts the interpretation of historical figures. From a heritage education perspective, I have developed strategies to counter these misconceptions through visual literacy, image comparison and alternative narratives. As part of my master project, I created an educational booklet that gives young people insight into witch iconography, historical nuance and character design.

In my research, I focused on three distinct areas.

  1. The construction of the witch in animation and popular culture
  2. The historical reality of Jeanne Panne and the clash with fiction
  3. Heritage education and visual literacy as a counterbalance
