Tussen Beeld en Beweging explores the question of how visual input can function within a participatory dance and movement practice without taking over the autonomous creative process. The research arose from my participation in Meer Dan Dans, a collective movement practice in Ghent, which was working towards a performance at the BOM Festival 2026.
During this process, my perspective on what visual input can be shifted. Not only objects, materials or drawings were given a place, but also the composition of bodies, spatial relationships, rhythm, traces and small interventions that could tip the balance of the group process.
From rehearsals, observations and experiments, a research project emerged that not only reflects but also gives something back to the practice. This resulted in the booklet Tussen Beeld en Beweging, containing ten working principles for artists, art educators and facilitators, and in a digital condition generator that generates session prompts for participatory movement practices.
