Sporen die Verbinden is a landscape design that starts from the former route of the neighbourhood tram ‘Zwette Jean’, in the rolling landscape of the Brabantse Wouden. What was once a transport line still leaves tangible traces in the landscape today: raised embankments, hollow roads and roadside structures that have built up ecological value over the years. Today, these silent remnants form the backbone of a design committed to restoration, connection and experience.

Through small-scale interventions such as reception areas, ecological corridors and a playful walking route on the theme of ‘water’, the landscape is not only restored, but also made accessible in a meaningful way. While playing, children and their parents discover how water — visible and hidden — shapes the landscape. The reception areas, each one tailored to a specific animal and ecosystem, make the past tangible while offering tranquillity and experience.

The project shows how remnants of infrastructure can develop into a living structure: a place where biodiversity flourishes, where history is reflected in the space and where new social dynamics emerge. The ‘Zwette Jean’ thus once again becomes a meaningful line in the landscape — a track that is silently present, but interweaves humans, nature and the future.
