I repeat to remember

The letters float in a space between figure and language

Between seeing and reading

How would you like to be written,

with a hand you just met?

At the centre of this project is my process of learning to read and write in Farsi. This process is guided by my father’s notebook, written after his migration from Iran to the Netherlands. The notebook contains poems, as well as lists of words and sentences translated from Farsi into Dutch. I copy these texts across different media in an attempt to get closer to the shapes of Persian script. Copying becomes a way of grasping something that feels just out of reach.
