For me, the action of painting is like a ritual which I like to compare to animal habits such as, for example, an arboreal bird instinctively building structures or a boar scavenging for food. What I find so fascinating about this ritualistic behaviour is that it arises through habit and so develops until the animal no longer needs to think to take that action. The aim of my master project is to give the viewer a similar impression by allowing myself to be influenced as much as possible by my senses during the painting process and limiting my sense of control. I have experimented with painting blindfolded, hanging my brush on a wobbly stick and rolling in my paint myself. In addition, the wildness of nature and the aggression that comes with it has also been of great importance to me throughout my master’s thesis. I have always been a very messy, wild painter. I treat my medium in a heavy-handed way and handle it very carelessly. I constantly step on my canvas, like to scratch the paint on my canvas and very much like to slap a full hand of paint against my canvas. As a painter, I like to surprise myself with coincidences that arise while wildly handling certain materials. Materials that clash, don’t mix, that clash with each other I find exciting to play with and push their qualities to the limit.
