From a young age, I felt more comfortable with images than words. When I try to explain what I think or feel, I often hit a wall — as if language cannot quite capture what is going on inside me. Images, shapes and colours do give me space to let my thoughts flow. They feel less forced, more intuitive and right.

From this personal experience, my master’s thesis was born. Together with a community, the Nerdlab, I investigate how visual elements can contribute to a sense of connection, without using words.

The resulting answers form the basis for the design of a flexible signage and corporate identity system. The aim is to make identity and a sense of community visually tangible. In this way, I explore whether image is not just a complement to language, but also a powerful, independent means of communication.
