For our final project, we were given the opportunity to redesign the vicarage garden in Bertem and the adjacent street. It is a special place, steeped in history and characterised by impressive existing trees that strongly define the character of the site. The combination of heritage, landscape and public space made it a challenging but highly fascinating design task. In the design, we sought to strike a balance between the site’s historical narrative and a contemporary interpretation that creates space for socialising, relaxation and lingering.
