The project area, Sportpark Verona, is situated in the Voer valley, in Bertem, alongside the E40. It is one of the few locations where the spatial relationship between the valley and the plateau is still clearly discernible. Historically, this was a wet landscape, characterised by the presence of springs and seepage zones. The Voer acted as a structuring landscape artery that shapes and connects the valley.

The ‘Vloeien in Beweging’ project approaches the sports park not merely as a recreational infrastructure, but as an integrated landscape in which water, ecology and use are interwoven. The design focuses on restoring and strengthening the landscape and hydrological structures, with the aim of creating a new green-blue connection. Within this vision, recreation is not viewed in isolation from the natural context, but is consciously integrated with it. In this way, a park is created in which the historical landscape features can be experienced anew and where the dynamics of water and nature play a central role in both the spatial organisation and the user experience.
