In 1699, Klaas Douwes published his book Grondig ondersoek van de toonen der musijk, in Friesland. It is the first known source describing the constructon of a pedal clavichord. His pedal clavichord has an independent pedal and a removable pedal for easy transport. The pedal contains two octaves and one note and is completely triple and quadruple fretted. It has just eight courses of three strings (8’ 8’ 16’) and uses a rollerboard, like organs do. During my masters I built a reconstruction of this instrument.
