These instruments, from the most influential Romantic guitar schools in Europe, represent the building styles and sound ideals of leading guitar makers of the 19th century. By replicating and studying them, I gained deep insight into the unique building techniques, aesthetic choices and working ideas of the luthiers that characterised this period. They form a bridge to the past and offer a tangible experience of the musical and craft diversity within the Romantic guitar tradition.

The 1852 replica guitar, attributed to Antonio de Torres Jurado, marks possibly his earliest work. He brought together the ideas of many others and became the father of the modern classical guitar.

Johann Georg Stauffer from Vienna known for his technical innovations, such as his adjustable neck that allowed the string height to be easily adjusted with the turn of a key.

René Lacote from Paris, perhaps the most famous Romantic guitar maker, created instruments of exceptional quality with daring techniques and refined craftsmanship. His guitars remain prized masterpieces to this day.

Despite the turbulent social and economic conditions in which these makers worked, they managed to create timeless instruments. These reconstructions are a tribute to their heritage and an attempt to better understand their thinking.
