In Washing the Soul, Lâle Lootens approaches repetition as an embodied practice rooted in the Sufi sema, a ritual form of zikir and a remembrance of Allah. Movement, sound, and image become a form of physical meditation. The body enters a process of transformation, opening a space between the earthly and the spiritual. Parallel to this, images of nature unfold a kindred cyclical rhythm, echoing the devotional logic.
