A summer travelogue. (2022/2025) is a piano-cycle composition that consists of 10 independent piano solo pieces. The idea of writing this piano-cycle work was based on my 2 piano miniatures in 2022, and later on, I got motivated to complete the whole cycle of work. The inspiration for the music came from my summer travel experiences; During my summer travel, I took images with a handy Instax camera. I had used these pictures as a conjunction with the piano cycle, and shared my story of traveling.
Moreover, the project included 2 of my chamber music works inspired by visuals, which are time-lapse. freeze(2025) and Counterpoint study I.(2024).
Time lapse. freeze(2025) was inspired by Martha Colburn’s exhibition “stop.vision.mission.” stop-motion video, and I am exploring the relations of pace and pausing through the settings of a Cello quartet. The work was written for the research retreat events by Cellowercken Zutphen, and premiered in Dat Bolwerck, Zutphen.
Counterpoint study I. (2024) is my oneself study on the harmony with a mixed septet setup. The output of my study is giving me a strong sense to correlate with an atmosphere or a scene, and thus I selected an image from my summer travel to bestow a meaning on the work. The work performed in the Pasklaar project 2024.
