“Thousands of times, tens of thousands of times, it is this repetition that frees their hands from thought. It is this freedom that is the mother of all creation.”
Soetsu Yanagi, The Beauty of Miscellaneous things (1926)
Why do repeating actions lead to a different result? I want to let go of control, but not too much. Fascinated by the relationship between my loom and my hands, I embarked on a journey to discover what is the dynamic of the pattern of repetitive movements my hands make and the repetitive patterns that appear. Armed with the basic principles that have defined weaving since its inception, I’m letting the materials guide me. I’m doing, undoing, redoing. I’m creating a dialogue with the loom, the tools, the fibres, the colours.
