Zoe Brennan, Tune in Radio Poort!

Tune in Radio Poort! is een buurtproject over, door en voor de Brugse Poort, een wijk in Gent.

Hoewel er sterke en diverse gemeenschappen bestaan, is er zelden interactie. Ikzelf en Lennert Janssens hebben dit project opgestart om te onderzoeken hoe mensen collectief leven en wat het betekent om de ruimte in een buurt te delen.

In april 2023 organiseerden we een constructieworkshop in De Koer, waar we samen met mensen uit de buurt een mobiel radiostation bouwden. Hiervoor gebruikten we alleen lokale materialen en afval uit de buurt.

Een jaar lang toerden we met het radiostation door de Brugse Poort en verzamelden we inhoud voor de radioprogramma’s in de vorm van audioworkshops, gesprekken, optredens en lezingen, voordat we luisterevenementen en uitzendingen voor de buurt organiseerden om terug te luisteren.

Tune in Radio Poort! is a neighbourhood project about, by and for the Brugse Poort, an area in Gent, Belgium.

Whilst strong and diverse communities exist here, they rarely interact. Myself and Lennert Janssens instigated this project as a means to investigate how people live collectively and what it means to share space in a neighbourhood.

Using only locally sourced and waste materials from the area, we hosted a construction workshop at De Koer in April 2023, where we built a mobile radio station together with people from the neighbourhood. ​

We have spent a year touring the radio station around the Brugse Poort, collecting content for the radio shows in the form of audio workshops, conversations, performances and lectures, before hosting listening events and broadcasts for the neighbourhood to listen back.
