In my practice, I am led by dualities. two forces that seems to work in two different directions. At first it was a Texture (nature) that deals with chaos, unpredictability and freedom that cannot be reproduced and rhythm (man-made) as the work of pure synthesis. Trying to capture a moment when these two seemingly opposing states become one led my practice. The painting for me became the place when these two can merge as one whole emergence and I could be the bridge..
As I am moving towards an abstract way of thinking I let go of the structures I knew. Allowing each layer of my painting to guide me for the next. My work appears like a map weaving my history, patterns, textures and references into a layered ecosystem as I lay layer upon layer. Each painting becomes a pattern, a poem with references, as I delve into a world of exploration by making a layer and destroying it. From dehierarchizing spaces to exploring my archive of images of patterns and textures, every painting becomes an exercise in finding relatedness and connections.

A cup is two circles connected by a round body, extending in space. It providesperspective when viewed from above. Transparent, it becomes an object and itsshadow. A practical object everywhere, holding water and drinks, a vessel ready to befilled.
A cup, neutral yet carrying contrast, shapes the liquid within. It transforms into animage of light and shadow when light hits it. Also, it’s two circles connected by a line.symbolizing firmness and connection, like water and wave. A tool used in teachingdrawing.

It is a metaphor for me, perhaps a sign of longing or not knowing oneself enough towant to be filled.
A cup represents contrasts and duality. Like yellow and blue merging it reflects thecollision I seek in my work. Why? Is it because I, as an artist, feel like a bridge or amediator.

Fragments
I have always perceived history abstractly. Not as a series of consecutive events, but asa series of posts I saw on my Instagram feed, quick and fleeting, isolated and lackingagency. That is why context flees me. I’ve held onto source images I’ve collected foryears, carrying them from studio to studio. These images have been my beginningpoints, my inspirations, the ones I looked up to and the images I found interesting butnever did anything with. shrinking them down and layering them one on top of theother, I created a layered image made up of many patterns, histories and actions. They are transformed in my painting as layer upon layer sometimes covering the ones beneath.

it’s like I’m creating a complete and comprehensive ecosystem, if it can ever be complete.

Patterns, so abstract, repeating and completing each other. I realized a pattern can also be read like a score, a text inviting the viewer to behave in a certain way.
