Watou as a link:

Over the last decades, the Westhoek has had an enormous policy for the development of its landscape, so much so that there has been much talk of a Westhoek National Park.

Now it is time for Watou to take action and fulfil its role as a cultural and recreational link in the Westhoek National Park.

“What a village like Watou needs is a clear picture of the future”:

Watou’s isolated location requires an extra effort to ease this barrier. That is why an isolated but ‘attractive’ pole is sought.

On a village scale, this means:

Watou has to enhance its villagescape by resolutely focusing on greening streets and facades.

For the two squares, this means concretely:

The future recreational needs must be met. On top of that, creating a high-quality aesthetic environment.

This strongly recognisable and ambitious identity will give the village and village centre a unique appeal.

This results in: three themes to prepare Watou:

Dynamics:
Mosaic landscape of different interactions, connections and interpretations

Climate adaptation:
Mitigate heat island effect and water problems

Modernity:
Pleasant contemporary environment for young and old

“The whole village of Watou becomes a landmark in the landscape’.
