Titus Simoens, Tu me dis - For Brigitte - 11:00 am
master beeldende kunsten - fotografie
Over the last three years Titus Simoens has been working on encounters with people. During the first months of his master, Simoens finished Tu me dis. The result is a book about a 24-hour story he had with an unknown woman he met in Arles. The book includes photographs he made of her and a surprising letter she wrote to him after their meeting.
During his studies he came in contact with Lieve, a woman who wanted to surprise her sister Brigitte for her seventieth birthday. Simoens took on this project and went through the family albums, looking for images that portray her as a woman of the world. Simoens created a book For Brigitte where he left the design partly up to chance to build an accidental and surprising narrative, full of unexpected details.
Finally he made the work 11:00 am about a 81-year-old man who lives close to Simoens’ home. 11:00 am are the weekly appointments between Alfons and Simoens. Their encounters became a ritual in which Simoens searched for a possible story. This search resulted in an honest and true representation of the thoughts of a photographer and the need to make a story.
