Simon Clément, Rojava: Twee Rivieren - Rojava: Two Rivers

Een project geworteld in een poging om op een subjectief niveau de ideologie te begrijpen die de revolutie van het Autonoom Bestuur van Noordoost-Syrië (in de volksmond Rojava genoemd) drijft. Een feministische revolutie die zich kristalliseerde in de nasleep van de volkse lente van 2011 in Syrië.

Dit werk probeert door te breken wat westerse media en buitenlandse belangen tot nu toe nooit hebben gedaan. Deze revolutie serieus genoeg nemen voor discussie. Want Rojava daagt ons hegemoniale denken over feminisme, democratie en revolutie in de 21e eeuw uit. Als activist en fotograaf in solidariteit met de revolutie, nodig ik uit om te luisteren, te zien en te leren.

Volgens de analogie van de beweging achter de revolutie is hun strijd een historische strijd van twee rivieren. Een democratische en een onderdrukkende rivier die door de geschiedenis heen altijd met elkaar in botsing zijn gekomen, tot nu in Rojava.

A project rooted in an attempt to understand on a subjective level the ideology that drives the revolution of the Autonomous Administration of North East Syria (popularly referred to as Rojava). A feminist revolution that crystalized in the wake of the peoples spring, 2011, in Syria.

This work attempts to break through to what western media and foreign interests never did so far. Take this revolution serious enough for discussion. As Rojava challenges hegemonic thinking about feminism, democracy and revolution in the 21st century. As an activist and photographer in solidarity with the revolution, I  invite you to listen, to see and to learn.
