Sam Dupont, Zwaluw

Zwaluw is een collectie meubels die ontstaan is vanuit de materialen metaal en hout. Vanuit zelfstudie heb ik de voorbije 10 jaar heel wat geleerd over houtbewerking en daarbij de nodige investeringen gedaan om het materiaal te kunnen bewerken.

Als stage koos ik dan om een andere weg op te gaan: metaal. Ateliers J&J leerde me de nodige inzichten omtrent het materiaal. Voor mijn eindwerk wou ik dus de 2 materialen combineren op een eenvoudige manier. Na een grondige zoektocht kwam ik bij de zwaluwstaart verbinding. Deze gebruik je normaliter tussen hout en hout. Maar mij leek het interessant om deze te gebruiken tussen hout en metaal. Het resultaat is een collectie die sterk verbonden is dankzij de materiaalkeuze, de ontwerpmethodiek & de zwaluwstaartverbinding.

///Ik wil dit platform graag gebruiken om de mensen te bedanken die mij hebben geholpen met mijn project. Eerst en vooral Dirk van Gogh en Danny Venlet voor de geweldige begeleiding en de reis naar Porto. Zwaluw is a collection of furniture created from the materials metal and wood. From self-study, I have learned a lot about woodworking over the past 10 years, making the necessary investments to work the material.

For my apprenticeship, I chose to take a different path: metal. Ateliers J&J taught me the necessary insights into the material. So for my thesis, I wanted to combine the two materials in a simple way. After a thorough search, I came across the dovetail joint. You normally use these between wooden parts. But I thought it would be interesting to use it between wood and metal. The result is a collection that is strongly connected thanks to the choice of materials, the design methodology & the dovetail joint.
