Robinh Truong, Hotel Kapellen

Mijn eindwerk van de focus Concept en Ruimtelijkheid bestaat uit een herbestemming van een hedendaags theater gebouw naar een hotel. Het theater ligt aan de noordrand van Antwerpen waar ook de Kappellen gelegen is. Door de gunstige ligging tegenover Nederland en de fiets- en wandelmogelijkheden is dit voor zowel toeristen als zakelijke klanten een aantrekkelijke locatie. Vanuit dit gegeven krijgen we 3 eisen die de pijlers vormen van ons hotel: het voorzien van vergaderruimtes voor de bedrijfsklanten, een horecafunctie gezien de ligging naast het plein waar dergelijke activiteiten georganiseerd worden, en accommodatie zodat klanten uiteraard kunnen overnachten. Daarnaast moeten we zelf studie doen naar de noden en vereisten van een hotel, om deze conclusies als basis te gebruiken voor het ontwerp. De opdracht bestaat dus hoofdzakelijk uit de organisatie van de verschillende functies in het pand en dit op een boeiende en ruimtelijke manier. Hierbij speelt de lichtinval en belevenis een grote rol. Tot slot wordt er ook veel belang gehecht aan de presentatie en vormgeving van het ontwerp, dit om het ontwerp zo goed mogelijk te kunnen communiceren.

In my Bachelor’s Thesis for Concept and Spatiality I focus on the conversion of a contemporary theatre building into a hotel. The theatre is located in the North of Antwerp, close to the Kappellen. Due to its favourable location close to the Netherlands and cycling and walking possibilities it is an attractive location for both tourists and business customers. This results in 3 requirements that form the main basis for our hotel: meeting rooms when we look at the business aspect, a catering function seen the location next to the square where events are organised, and of course accommodation for people to stay overnight. In addition, we need to study the needs and requirements of a hotel, using this as the basis for the design. The assignment therefore mainly consists of organising the various functions in the building in an exciting and spatial manner. The importance of light and atmosphere plays a major role in this. Finally, a great deal of importance is also given to the presentation and design in order to communicate the design to the best of our capabilities.
