Noa Verkeyn, 'Some Things will never change'

Het werk van Noa Verkeyn (°1997) omvat tekeningen, sculpturen en installaties. In haar werk
onderzoekt ze de relatie tussen mens en natuur, tracht ze een verhaal te vertellen waarin planten
worden vermenselijkt en levende dingen in vraag worden gesteld.
Haar werken zijn opgebouwd uit enerzijds inkt, spuitbus en kleurpotloden en anderzijds klei, aarde en bloemen. Het combineren van deze materialen brengt een spanning teweeg die de toeschouwer verward achterlaat met zowel een vertrouwd als vervreemdend gevoel.
Kleur is in Noa’s werk van cruciaal belang omdat het voor haar het ontkiemen van het leven belichaamt. Door met kleur te spelen, in alle vormen en maten, leggen haar tekeningen en sculpturen een verbinding tussen haar levendige utopische wereld en diegene waarin we ons
bevinden. Een wereld creëren waarin deze tegenstrijdige gevoelens worden opgeroepen is
uiteindelijk de kern van haar artistieke praktijk. Doordat ze de natuur naar binnen brengt en loskoppelt van haar natuurlijke habitat, creëert ze een moment dat losstaat van de buitenwereld. Een nieuwe realiteit die uitkomt op een bloemenveld waarin het lelijke mooi wordt, het wispelturige betrouwbaar en humor de pijn verzacht.

The work of Noa Verkeyn (°1997) includes drawings, sculptures and installations. In her work
she examines the relationship between man and nature, trying to tell a story in which plants are humanised and living things are questioned.
Her work is composed of ink, spray-cans and coloured pencils on the one hand and clay, earth and flowers on the other hand. The combination of these materials creates a tension that leaves the viewer confused and with both a familiar and an alienated feeling.
Colour is of crucial importance in Noa’s work, because for her it embodies the sprouting of life. By playing with colour in all its shapes and sizes, her drawings and sculptures make a connection between her vivid utopian world and the one we find ourselves currently in.
Creating a world that evokes these contradictory feelings is eventually the core of her artistic practice. By bringing nature inside and disconnecting it from its natural habitat, she is able to create a moment that is separate from the outside world. A new reality that ends up in a field of flowers in which the ugly becomes beautiful, the fickle reliable and humour softens the pain.
