Mirte Maes, Strijkers aan het Brusselse Hof

Hoe zou het strijkersensemble aan het Brusselse hof eruit gezien hebben in de 17e en 18e eeuw?
Een bijzonder instrument uit de collectie van het MIM in Brussel hielp ons een tipje van de sluier op de lichten: een grote altviool uit 1692, gemaakt door de Brusselse luthier Gaspar Borbon (c. 1635-1710). Met behulp van een CT-scan werd dit instrument nagebouwd, samen met twee andere instrumenten die een rol gespeeld hebben in het muziekleven aan het Brusselse Hof. Samen wekten ze de muziek van het Sint-Goedelefonds tot leven.

What did the string ensemble look like at the Brussels court in the 17th and 18th century?
A particular instrument from the collection of the MIM in Brussels provided some vital clues: a large viola from 1692, made by the Brussels luthier Gaspar Borbon (c. 1635-1710). With the help of a CT scan, this instrument was reconstructed, along with two other instruments that played a role in the Brussels court life. Together, they brought the music of the St. Gudula collection to life.
