Een vaak terugkerend probleem binnen de lutherie is dat van historische correctheid. Vele instrumenten zijn doorheen hun leven omgebouwd om relevant te blijven en aangepast naar de mode van die tijd. Voor dit project nam ik twee overgebleven instrumenten en probeerde hun historie te herontdekken. Aan de hand van opmetingen, iconografie, historische geschriften, tablaturen,… werden deze gereconstrueerd in een zo origineel mogelijke staat.

An often reoccuring problem in lutherie is that of historical correctness. Many instruments have been reconstructed or adapted to stay relevant and usefull within the fashions of the time. In this project I took a closer look at two extant instruments en tried to reimagine their history. With the use of measurements, iconography, historical scriptures, tablatures,… these instruments were reconstructed in a historical state as close as possible to the original.

During the first couple weeks of this year, I was fortunate to go on an internship in the workshop of Lars Tørressen in Bergen, Norway. Here I got the opportunity to work on a very similar project as my own. During my stay we worked on a reconstruction of a 17th century French baroque lute. The result of which can be heard through the link at the top of the page, played by Thomas C. Boysen.

Tijdens de eerste weken van het jaar, had ik het geluk om een stageplaats te bekomen bij Lars Tørressen in Bergen, Noorwegen. Tijdens mijn verblijf kreeg ik de kans mee te werken aan een project gelijkaardig aan het mijne. We spendeerden onze tijd aan de reconstructie van een 17de eeuwse Franse barokluit.
