Binnen de focus tijdelijke installaties, kregen we de opdracht om een installatie te ontwerpen vertrekkende vanuit een sociale context. Deze sociale context vulde ik in door te werken rond eenzaamheid.

Om dit actueel probleem aan te pakken werkte ik rond het idee van een shelter omdat dit heel wat betekenissen heeft die relevante noden uitdrukken: schuilplaats, toevluchtsoord, bescherming, beschutting, afdak, onderdak, ankerplaats …

Net omdat het bestrijden van eenzaamheid zo laagdrempelig mogelijk dient te verlopen, pakte ik dit actueel probleem zeer lokaal aan. Zo lokaliseerde ik mijn installatie(s) in Ekkergem, in de stad Gent, met als doel dit initiatief in de toekomst ook in andere delen van Gent (en eventueel ook in andere steden in België) toe te passen.

Om eenzaamheid in deze regio aan te pakken, werkte ik met drie verschillende installaties: bewustmaking, preventie en verhelpen. Deze drie installaties worden opgebouwd uit 3 units met verschillende omvang. Bij elke installatie werd er gebruik gemaakt van afgedankt hout en golfplaten om zo bij te dragen aan het gevoel van een shelter.

Within the focus on temporary installations, we were commissioned to design an installation starting from a social context. I filled in this social context by focusing on loneliness.

In order to tackle this current problem, I worked with the idea of a shelter because it has many meanings that express relevant needs: shelter, refuge, protection, cover, harbour, anchorage, etc.

Because the fight against loneliness should be as accessible as possible, I tackled this contemporary problem very locally. So I located my installation(s) in Ekkergem, in the city of Ghent, with the aim of applying this initiative in the future in other parts of Ghent (and possibly also in other cities in Belgium).

To tackle loneliness in this region, I worked with three different installations: awareness, prevention and remedy. These three installations are made up of three units of different sizes. In each installation, discarded wood and corrugated iron were used to contribute to the feeling of a shelter.
