Where the water’s edge meets the reeds, where the mud is mixed with silt deep enough to swallow your boots. There, a boy lay motionless beneath the mud, the outline of his crouching silhouette making him barely visible. The algae seemed to have crept up around him, and the reeds are just about breaking through his skin.
