Kevin Moyson, Muide-Meulestede, groen & blauw voor iedereen

De site die wij zullen behandelen voor onze ontwerpopdracht bevindt zich in de Muide-Meulestede.

De Muide-Meulestede situeert zich boven centrum Gent, en vormt een verlengde van de buitenstad. Dankzij de haven links en het kanaal Gent-Terneuzen rechts is de Muide-Meulestede als het ware een eiland.

Dit eiland is door de jaren heen de thuis geworden van gezinnen die te werk gesteld waren in de haven. Er ontstond als het ware een ‘dorpje’, met zijn eigen parochie, tramlijn en kerk.
Door de jaren heen verdween de havenindustrie voor het meeste, en kwam er plaats voor nieuwe bewoners, zoals gezinnen met jobs in de stad, kwamen net buiten het centrum wonen.
Rond de jaren 80 werden hier ook appartementsgebouwen opgetrokken, om sociaal wonen mogelijk te maken, tot de dag vandaag worden deze appartementen toegekend aan sociaal wonen, en worden er zelfs nieuwe woningen ingepland.
Het eiland bestaat uit de Voormuide,Muidebrug,Muide,Port Arthur & Meulestede. Wij behandelen het gebied Meulestede.

The site that we will discuss in function of our bachelortest, is called the Muide-Meulestede.

The Muide-Meulestede situates itself above the centre of Gent, and forms an extensions of the Gent suburbs. It is thanks to the industrial harbour on the left and the channel Gent-Terneuzen on the right, the Muide-Meulestede rightfully calls itself an island.

Through the years, this island became a home for families with jobs in or around the harbour area. A small ‘village’ rose in the middle of the suburb, with it’s own tramline, church and parish.

Trough the years, a lot of activities concerning the harbour dissapeared, and new living spaces came about for new families, mostly people with jobs in the city, searching for a home just outside the city centre.

Around the 80’s, appartments were build to house people with social disadvantages (social housing). These buildings are still being used today for social housing, there are even plans to expand the social housing by building new living spaces.

The Island exists of the Voormuide, Muidebrug, Muide, Port Arthur and the Meulestede. For our bachelortest, we will study the area known as ‘Meulestede’
