Inez Lemm, Borrekensveld, een sociaal laboratorium

We dragen als ontwerper van de buitenruimte een belangrijke verantwoordelijkheid, de inrichting van een openbare ruimte heeft namelijk veel invloed op de werking van een buurt. Het herinrichten van Borrekensveld is een uitdaging waarbij men niet enkel een duurzaam project wil realiseren op ecologisch vlak, maar ook een sociaal duurzaam project. Een plaats dat de sterktes van het samenwonen in een buurt uitlicht en waar de buurtwerking wordt gestimuleerd.

Cultuurfilosoof Lieven De Cauter beschrijft Parckfarm aan Tour en Taxis te Brussel als een sociaal laboratorium. Er worden namelijk culturen met elkaar gemengd en dat is belangrijk. Dit vind ik een interessante denkwijze die volgens mij ook van toepassing kan zijn op Borrekensveld.

Aangezien de sociale woonwijk dateert van de jaren 70 tracht ik die identiteit te versterken door te werken met jaren 70 vormen, kleuren en planten.

As designers of outdoor space, we bear an important responsibility; after all, the design of a public space has a great deal of influence on the functioning of a neighbourhood. The redevelopment of Borrekensveld is a challenge in which one does not only want to realise a sustainable project on an ecological level, but also a socially sustainable one. A place that highlights the strengths of living together in a neighbourhood and where the neighbourhood function is stimulated.

Cultural philosopher Lieven De Cauter describes Parckfarm at Tour en Taxis in Brussels as a social laboratory. Cultures are mixed with each other and that is important. I think this is an interesting way of thinking that could also apply to Borrekensveld.

Since the social housing estate dates back to the 70s, I try to strengthen that identity by working with shapes, colours and plants from the 70s.
