Dit project is een hoofdstuk van een breder archiefonderzoek dat zich concentreert op de kwestie van culturele en artistieke expressie onder Marokkaanse en Riffijnse arbeiders, activisten en organisaties in de jaren ’70 en ’80.
De installatie bestaat uit gesprekken, fragmenten en archiefstukken van de 3e Moussem of Migration, georganiseerd door het KMAN (Komitee Marokkaanse Arbeider in Nederland) en de delegatie van Marokkaanse arbeidersorganisaties in Europa. Dit evenement vond precies 40 jaar geleden plaats in Amsterdam.
De fragmenten over de producties van migrantenfeesten gaan over de culturele festiviteiten die een sociale en politieke beweging op gang brachten. Hoewel het cruciaal is om ook de kritieken en hun tijdgeest te begrijpen die nog steeds resoneren in het heden.
Ondanks het feit dat de arbeidersbeweging zich vertakte, was het streven altijd gericht op een cultuur, niet van tradities, maar van emancipatie en verzet.
This project is a chapter of a broader archival research that concentrates on the question of cultural and artistic expression among Moroccan and Riffian workers, activists and organizations in the 70s and 80s.
The installation consists of conversations, fragments and and archival pieces from the 3rd Moussem of Migration, organized by the KMAN (Komitee Marokkaanse Arbeider in Nederland) and the delegation of Moroccan workers’ organizations in Europe. This event took place exactly 40 years ago in Amsterdam.
The excerpts on the productions of migrant celebrations reflect on the cultural festivities that sparked a social and political movement. Although it is crucial to also understand the critiques and their zeitgeist that still resonate in the present.
Despite the fact that the labor movement branched off, the desire was always to strive for a culture, not of traditions, but emancipation and resistance.
