George Chinnery is an English visual artist and DJ. His diverse practice weaves an elegant thread through a wide spectrum of creative activity, lingering in the indefinite spaces between disciplines. It encompasses sound, video, sculptural installation and writing.
His practice serves as a playful apparatus to coax sensual, poetic and absurd fragments of everyday life into ephemeral partnerships. Seemingly disparate approaches are unified by a subtle grasp of ambiguity and atmosphere. In his recent sculptural installations, theatrical spaces charged with performative potential are pervaded by ritual-esque objects, deconstructed narratives and immersive soundscapes.
The artists intuitive and experimental vocabulary is defined by its constant flirtation with obscurity, detail and a sensitivity to language. Recurring themes emerge from a post-modern landscape littered with rhetorical questions and primal urges, drawing on both technological and ancient networks of collective memory.
