Fien Vrolix, Wrong Norma

De schilderijen van Fien Vrolix ontstaan als concrete abstracties op doek. Het is de materie, de dikte en glans van de verf, de mat- of stugheid, de stap opzij waardoor het zwart licht vangt en zilver wordt, die het schilderij maken. Schilderen ontstaat hier uit de wens om een geestelijke focus te vinden; het atelier staat voor een deur die dichtgaat, terwijl op het doek dan weer de weg terug, in de wereld, gezocht wordt, maar dan veranderd, eigen gemaakt. Het schilderen ontwikkelt zich zo tot een praktijk van transformatie en beweeglijkheid, die de materialiteit van de wereld en zijn lichamelijkheid toont.

Fien Vrolix’s paintings emerge as concrete abstractions on canvas. It is the matter, the thickness and sheen of the paint, the matt or stiffness, the step aside through which the black catches light and becomes silver, that make the painting. Painting here arises out of the desire and discipline to find a spiritual focus; the studio represents a door closing, while on the canvas the way back, into the world, is then sought, but changed, made its own. Painting thus develops into a practice of transformation and agility, showing us the materiality of the world and physicality, perception as sensation.
