Het idee voor dit ontwerp ontstond na het bekijken van de Pano reportage omtrent de wooncrisis in het laagste huursegment. Enerzijds is er een tekort aan sociale woningen. Anderzijds zijn de woningen met lage huurprijs vaak niet kwalitatief tot bijna onleefbaar. Ik besloot me te verdiepen in de sociale woningbouw. Zo kreeg mijn concept vorm. De Neermeersen te Gent bleek een sociaal-utopisch project van Gent te zijn 1965. Uit de reeks gebouwen koos ik residentie Elektra: een grote woonblok aan het einde van de Watersportbaan. Mijn doel was om deze residentie om te vormen tot een betaalbare, kwalitatieve (sociale) woonsite met units van 30, 60 en 90 m².

The idea for this design came after watching the Pano report about the housing crisis in the lowest rental segment. On the one hand, there is a shortage of social housing. On the other hand, the low-rent houses are often not of good quality and almost unlivable. I decided to delve into social housing. That is how my concept took shape. The Neermeersen in Ghent turned out to be a social-utopian project of Ghent 1965. From the series of buildings, I chose the Elektra residence: a large residential block at the end of the Watersportbaan. My aim was to transform this residence into an affordable, high-quality (social) housing site with units of 30, 60 and 90 m².
