Arne Wastyn, Just a horrifying image

Arne Wastyn (1993) is een kunstenaar die woont en werkt in Gent. In deze snelle wereld, die moeilijk is waar te nemen, zet hij zijn werk in om grip te krijgen op de menselijke aard en het geweld dat ons omringt. In onze beeldverzadigde cultuur maakt Arne gebruik van tekeningen en foto’s om inzicht te krijgen in de menselijke verhouding tussen rationeel en irrationeel. Hij speelt met de betekenis van beelden door ze te ondergraven en zo bevreemdende combinaties te scheppen. Bijvoorbeeld in zijn publicatie ‘Angling Ways’ waarin hij slachtoffers van haaienaanvallen combineert met hengelillustraties. Vanuit zijn productiedrang maakt hij tal van prenten, tekeningen en publicaties.

Arne Wastyn (1993) is an artist who lives and works in Ghent. In this high-speed world that is hard to perceive, he uses his work to get a grip on human nature and the violence that surrounds us. In our image-inflated culture, Arne uses drawings and photographs in order to get an understanding of the human ratio between the rational and irrational. He plays with the meaning of images by overthrowing them in order to create surprising, eerie combinations. So too in his publication Angling Ways where he combines victims of shark attacks and angling illustrations. From his strong urge to produce he makes numerous prints, drawings and publications.
